Item Description

Uvarovite is very uncommon from this obscure former mining boom town located along the Tuolumne River, now completely inundated beneath the Don Pedro Reservoir (MINDAT). It is the rare green chromium-rich end member of the Grossular-Uvarovite Garnet Group Series. Scintillating, gemmy emerald-green dodecahedral crystals to 2 mm richly cover part of the matrix on this fine piece. Choice old-time material from the Francesco Bedogne Collection # 224. Dr. Bedogne, 1942-2012, was a well-known Italian mineralogist, prolific author, field collector and collector.
