Item Description

Lustrous, sharp, brick-red, hexagonal vanadinite prisms, to 4 mm, are festooned on five sides of this rich and excellent specimen from this extinct small underground mine near Tombstone. The crystals are preferentially coated with oxides on one side. Strikingly, you can see that the vanadinite is a crust surrounding the quartz matrix on one side. Vanadinites of this quality and richness are VERY RARE from here and the faded, torn old paper label dates the piece to the early stages of the active mining period from 1929-1953. A MUST for the Arizona or species collector. Bruce Murphy Collection
