Most people do not appreciate the outstanding quality of vanadinites from Taouz. The majority of specimens came out in the 1980s and 90s and are far less common from the vastly more abundant vannies from Mibladen. Another plus is the contrasting matrix of black manganese oxides of many Taouz pieces, that really accentuates the color of the vanadinite crystals. This exceptional and sculptural superbly crystallized small cabinet is highlighted by the many crystal forms of the lustrous red to orange-red prisms. Striking clusters of blocky parallel-growth hexagonal prisms with a hoppered cogwheel look next to the narrow parallel-growth compound crystals with a definite cogwheel look on the left dramatically dominate the crest of the piece. Richly scattered, more discrete prisms and barrels beautifully accent the larger crystal clusters and the rolling thin manganese oxide matrix crust. The vannies spill over onto the back as a bonus. This is a superbly crystallized and rare style of vanadinite from the Larry Conklin Collection. The crystal forms, color and association are top flight. Valued at $2500-3500.
