Item Description

A great piece from the famous Siglo XX Mine in Bolivia. This small cabinet is filled with radiating groups of beautiful blue color, incredibly rare, very well crystallized, small, bladed Vauxite crystals associated with micro "sugary" Quartz and tiny brownish colored Childrenite which can best be seen with strong magnification. We have photographed the piece with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to show the detail. You just don't see many Vauxite specimens on the market today, and this one is even more special beucase it's from the type locality. The species was was originally discovered along the Contacto and San Jose veins at the Siglo XX Mine and first described by Sam Gordon and Mark Bandy in 1922. It is so unbelievably rare to find beautifully crystallized specimens of Vauxite, because you can only get pieces of this size and quality from one mine in the world. Going back about 10 years, this species was only known from three localities in the world, although it has been reported from a few new localities since that time.
