Item Description

Mt. Antero is one of the great classic pegmatite localities in Colorado, that is known predominantly for its superb aquamarine crystals. One of the main associated species at Mt. Antero is phenakite. This extremely large, sharp, lustrous, translucent, blue-gray, floater rhombic crystal is strikingly accented with smaller phenakites. This specimen was in the same box from the Richard Hauck Collection, that held the previously described, old-time bertrandite on beryl from Mt. Antero. We believe this superb floater was collected about the same time as the beryl and also prepared by Egleston. Probably a unique old-timer, over 110 years old! Value??? Hard to say, but we estimate in the $500 range.
