Item Description

Classic, sharp, lustrous, gemmy, deep root beer color crystals of Veusvianite measuring up to 6 mm sitting on greenish-black colored Clinochlore ("Chlorite") matrix. The label states that the white crystals in the little vug are possibly Apatite. This world famous locality dates back centuries, and is obviously best known for the massive volcainc eruption that took place in 79 AD. It's also the type locality for Vesuvianite, which gets its name from the famous volcano. Superb classic old material from Italy! Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1595). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017).
