Item Description

The famous Jeffrey Mine in Quebec, Canada (which is now closed), was one of the most famous mineral localities in North America. It was the source some of the most iconic crystals of Vesuvianite ever found, but they were rarely gem quality, so faceted stones are notably rare. The color observed in Vesuvianite crystals from this locality ranges from green, yellow-green, emerald green, orange, purple, red, and various shades in between. This stone is one of the better examples of faceted Vesuvianite that I've seen from the locality. It has a beautiful light yellow-green color, with slight inclusions and an "Oval Brilliant" cut. While Vesuvianite is considered a rare gemstone, this particular stone is even more desirable for collectors because of the prestigious locality. Please note, often in the gem world, you will see Vesuvianite labeled as "Idocrase" which is an archaic synonym that is no longer valid.
