Vivianite in fossil mollusc matrix (superb - Bob Reynolds Coll.)

An superb large two-sided specimen from the phosphatic iron deposits at Kerch. The interior of an impressive 9.7 cm-tall fossilized mollusc is filled with a crust of black vivianite and striking sprays of lustrous, variably-sized vivianite blades. Some of the blades have gemmy sections and colors range from black to olive-green. Ironstone matrix fills the interior of the large fossilized mollusc shown in detail on back side, which is dramatically accented with another fossilized mollusc with both valves present (rare). This phosphate pod deposit is now mined through and gone. These came out in the late 1980s and 90s. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. It is extremely RARE to obtain specimens today of this TOP quality. This is one of the best we have ever seen! They are gone now. Nothing like this has come out in decades. It is one of those rare specimens, almost impossible to value as it is so interesting, and also dramatic at the same time.
