Item Description

Vivianite, a Fe-phosphate, is RARE from this famous old quarry near the state capital, for phosphates, that produces fossil whale vertebrae. This strange looking lumpy piece is composed of numerous intergrow vivianite nodules that nucleated around a vertebrae or bone section, as is typical for this quarry. Highly unusual, this occurrence is much like the Kerch (Crimea) vivianite in fossils, and I have heard some people speculate that in both cases, the crystals probably nucleated in part from the organic material in the fossil. Rarely seen on the market today, and a super American collectible.
