Item Description

A classic, but still quite rare specimen from phosphate locality at Mullica Hill in New Jersey. This is far from the Franklin or the Watchung Mountains, as it's in southern Jersey, about 25 miles from Philadelphia. One rarely sees these specimens on the market today as they came out decades ago, but are still sought after by collectors. This locality is best known for phosphate species, but perhaps its best known specimens are the eye-catching replacements or pseudmorphs of Vivianite after marine animals. This narrow / oddly tubular specimen hosts dark greenish-black crystals of Vivianite that replaced a Belemnite fossil. The quality of the Vivianites is good for the locality as they are notably lustrous, which is not common as many can be dull and unattractive. Not your typical Jersey specimen, and a great piece to add to any East Coast mineral collection. For more information, please see the article about Mullica Hill, New Jersey in Min. Rec. 9-10/1980
