Item Description

A spectacular and showy, two-sided specimen of a glassy, translucent, golden-amber vlasovite crystal frozen in glassy, cherry-red eudialyte matrix. A white rind of gittinsite surrounds the vlasovite. Vlasovite and gittinsite are ULTRA-RARE zirconium silicates, found only in a few alkaline massifs worldwide. There is even a 1.2 cm gem section of eudialyte on this piece. The Kipawa Complex is the Type Locality for gittinsite. This is a superb example and looks like an unlimited hydroplane racing boat. Vlasovite fluoresces a moderate yellow under UV illumination. The only other specimen of this material, that we have sold at auction was in October, 2007. It was smaller, of about equal quality and sold for $394.
