Item Description

A beautiful thumbnail specimen of Volborthite from the MONUMENT No. 1 Mine in Mystery VALLEY in Arizona (mistakenly labeled originally as coming from Monument Valley). This locality is best known for its Volborthite specimens which have a characteristic electric yellow-green color, and platy, sometimes "rosette"-like crystal formations. Typically species with this kind of color can attribute it to the presence of uranium, but that is not the case with Volborthite, as it is a hydrated copper hydroxyl vanadate. This piece has a fair amount of crystals which are associated with minor pale blue Chrysocolla. We've photographed the crystals with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate the quality. Ex Brian Kosnar collection.
