Wavellite (classic material)

The Wavellites from Avant, Arkansas certainly qualify as some of the best specimens of this well-known phosphate ever found. They are cherished for their excellent form, size, color and displayability. This piece is an older specimen from the 1980s and features a predominant, good sized radiating "ball" of Wavellite measuring 2.5 cm across, with a light green hue on the exterior, but when you flip the piece around you can see that the internal "core" has been exposed, revealing a much darker green hue. It's a great example of how the Wavellites grew in layers and their chemistry changed over time creating the variations in the green color. Several additional complete spheres can be seen on the specimen as well, but the main "ball" is the focal point, and it's quite eye-catching. Beautiful old classic material.
