Item Description

This is a sculptural and attractive small cabinet specimen of these beautiful Wavellites from one of the most well-known localities for the species. Wavellite is known from many world localities, but the finest and most colorful specimens in the world are found in Arkansas. This piece features fine quality, blue-green colored "balls" of Wavellite measuring up to 4 mm across associated with minor micro Metavariscite according to the label. My favorite aspect of the piece is that the majority of the spheres are complete and unbroken, which is honestly not that common for this material. You'll see a lot of incomplete and just plain broken spheres of Wavellite from the various localities in Arkansas, so when you find an attractive piece like this with full complete spheres, it means something. Valued at $1,200 in the inventory. From the collection of Brian Kosnar. The piece was originally collected by Ken Gochenour in 1988 (see Ken's obituary here https://www.thefreelibrary.com/Died%2C+Ken+Gochenour%2C+62-a0213607511).
