Item Description

Arkansas Wavellites are the most strongly colored examples of the species known. The intense green hues seen are caused by only a small amount of Vanadium content, but it's enough to create the incredibly strong color. This piece is a nice overall specimen featuring dark green radiating aggregates on matrix. There is some damage, so it's not pristine, but the contacted areas do show variations in color with some attractive lighter green and yellow coloring. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
