Item Description

Wavellite is a well-known aluminum phosphate mineral that was named after Dr. William Wavell, and English scientist in 1805. Over the last 200+ years, the species has been found in a wide range of colors from various world localities. Without questions, some of the finest specimens in terms of quality and COLOR are the famed examples found in localities around Avant, Arkansas. This piece is a superb display specimen featuring shimmering, INTENSE blue-green Wavellite botryoids on light grey Novaculite matrix. The color is about as rich as it gets for the species, not just from Avant, but anywhere There are many fine quality, COMPLETE unbroken spheres of Wavellite measuring up to about 7 mm across. There are many examples of this material where the spheres unfortunately were contacted / broken, but THIS piece is in superb condition, not just for the material, but for the species in general. The spheres fortunately formed in a part of the pocket where they weren't pressed against the other side and broken upon removal. Rarely does one see so many complete "balls" on a specimen like this. Classic material, and certainly some of the most beloved Wavellite in the world for color. Valued at $2,500 for the coverage of mostly undamaged spheres. The best of this material is the finest color Wavellite extant!
