Item Description

A cool old-time historic white Star Sapphire from Sri Lanka. I will say that we put a strong light on the gem (see video), and the star is fairly faint, I would honestly say it looks more like a cat's eye as opposed to a star, but we're maintaining the integrity of the gem with regard to its pedigree. The stone has a very soft whitish hue with a tiny bit of a pale yellow overtone and an "Oval Cabochon" cut with good internal translucency. A great historic gem that dates back 70 years!
From the collection of William ("Bill") Alexander Needham Severance (1931 – 2023), the well-known, beloved and prolific mineral and gem collector from West Grove, Pennsylvania. Bill's gem paper accompanies the stone which states he obtained the crystal from which this stone was cut in 1954 in Sri Lanka (Ceylon) on his around the world cruise! The stone was later cut by Frederick ("Fred") W. Maiwurm who passed away in 1976.
