Item Description

Whiteite is a rare phosphate, and some of the most beautiful (and well known) crystals of the material are found in the Yukon Territory. This area is only accessible for a few months per year and is rather treacherous terrain for collecting specimens. This piece is hosts very attractive, good sized, fine quality, sharp, lustrous, monoclinic crystals of tan Whiteite with minor deep blue Lazulite and gemmy brown rhombs of Siderite. I have not seen many of these specimens on the market in the last few years, so don't pass this one up as the crystals are good quality for the species. The largest Whiteite measures 1.3 cm. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
