Item Description

Willemite is zinc silicate mineral, but it's not often found in terribly colorful or attractive display specimens. The pieces from Tsumeb are not only well-known and sought, but they are some of the most eye-catching examples of the species from anywhere. Willemite from Tsumeb is found is a wide range of colors and habits, but the blue specimens are generally agreed to the be the most desirable. This piece hosts lustrous, beautiful gemmy, aqua blue colored crystal groups of Willemite measuring up to 7 mm associated with Calcite and virtually no matrix. The Willemites are beautiful when backlit, and there are crystals on all sides of the specimen! A fantastic and certainly rarely seen piece of this classic material. Valued around $2,500-$3,500 retail. From the collection of Vasco Trancoso, a medical doctor and prominent mineral collector from near Lisbon, Portugal (https://www.mindat.org/user-11954.html). He assembled his mineral collection over the course of 60 years, and built a fine worldwide display collection that we recently purchased. This piece is pictured on mindat.org at https://www.mindat.org/photo-183927.html
