Item Description

A rare, titanium-bearing member of the Vesuvianite group, Wiluite is only found in a few worldwide localities, with the most desirable specimens found in the Vilyui River Basin in Rusasia, one of the Co-Type Localities. The two, penetrating Wiluites are choice, sharp, euhedral, and prismatic tetragonal crystals. The luster is excellent on these blackish-green crystals, and I am pretty sure that the largest Wiluite, at 2.7 cm, is doubly-terminated. The pair sit aesthetically on the matrix, and this is very fine for the species. These crystals were originally considered to be Vesuvianite, until they were determined to be a new species within the Vesuvianite Group. This was #12,105 in Kay's collection, though her notation indicates this was acquired way back in 1960. matrix examples are uncommon, though singles can be had. Valued $500
