Item Description

Classic and excellent old-time witherite from Rosiclare. The lustrous, translucent, tan, textbook, pseudo-hexagonal crystal has striking, typical well-developed, stepped-growth faces. The witherite is artistically accented with embedded purple fluorite, rubyjack sphalerite and bone-white barite and aesthetically rests on a matrix of the same accessory minerals. Exceptional old-time matrix witherite combination material from the famous Rosiclare District and has outstanding 270-degree visual appeal. It is pristine in the primary frontal presentation view. Excellent white fluorescence. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 233 and acquired from The Bradleys in the 1950s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
