Wulfenite (classic locality)

Wulfenite is the state mineral of Arizona, and for good reason, as there is no other state in the US that has produced anywhere close to the number of world-class specimens of this beloved lead tungstate mineral. There are many key mines in Arizona that are world-famous for their Wulfenite crystals, and the Rowley Mine is certainly in the top tier in terms of color, form, size and quality. This showy small cabinet specimen is filled with intense fiery orange colored Wulfenite crystals that measure up to 1.3 cm, but what really makes them stand out from others is their notable thickness! Many Wulfenite crystals from the Rowley Mine can be rather thin and delicate, but the crystals on this specimen are robust / hearty and while still fragile, not nearly as much as most others from this locality. The crystals are highly lustrous, with an reflective glassy sheen on the surface, and they are even gemmy(!) when backlit, despite being thicker than average. Some of the crystals are virtually WATER-CLEAR in areas! The vast majority of them are damage-free, but like many pieces from this mine, there are some contacts/nicks, so it's not pristine, but you can forgive some imperfections due to the impressive overall quality of the crystals. Additionally, the Wulfenites measure up to 1.3 cm, which is certainly larger than average for the locality. An impressive and highly desirable example from this classic locality that dates back to the early 1900s.
