Item Description

A classic example of these famous and beautiful Wulfenite crystals from the famous Glove Mine. This piece dates back about 50 years and is a wonderful thumbnail of this particular style. The crystals are sharp, well-formed, lustrous tabular blades with a dark-yellow colored on the exterior, but show a darker brown hue in the middle. When you look at the crystals on their sides, you can see they have a "banded" or almost "sandwich" like layered form, creating the bi-colored effect. The largest Wulfenite measures 1.0 cm. A small amount of Calcite can be seen at the base of the Wulfenites. Very little damage and good quality all around. From the collection of Colorado mining legend, Dave Bergman. Dave is now retired, but among other things, he was the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s. He is also the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar. See Dave's photo mining at the Sweet Home on page 58 of Peter Bancroft's book "Gem and Crystal Treasures".
