Item Description

Bright, translucent, yellowish-orange Wulfenite crystals measuring up to 1.2 cm are scattered on a matrix of limonite gossan from the classic locality at Mapimi. The crystals are unusually pyramidal (or bi-pyramidal in some cases), and this prismatic tetragonal habit is rarely seen in Wulfenite, as they typically form in thin blades. Gorgeous material, and will certainly go down as some of the most well-known pieces from the locality. There are a few tiny contacts, but the piece is still very showy and eye-catching. For those of you who remember the abundance of yellow Adamites from Ojuela on the market in the 1970s, look at how they have appreciated in value over the years, and these Wulfenite will not be around forever, so don't miss out. From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
