Item Description

Scintillating, glassy yellow-orange wulfenite windowpanes, to 5 mm, with beveled edges are festooned on two sides of the mounded small cabinet gossan matrix from the Darwin Mine. This very rich and showy piece was probably collected by Wolfgang Mueller in the mid-1970s. The polymetallic Darwin District started production in 1875, with the last mine in the group closing in 1976. See the 1984 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 15, No. 1. Wulfenites from the District are rare, seldom on the market and are highly sought-after by California collectors. A rare, rich and choice wulfenite from Darwin. Hard to value, as we see so few!
