Item Description

Colored diamonds are highly desirable and rare in the gem world. This is an ultra-rare Brazilian specimen of a gemmy, glassy, 5 mm, YELLOW, octahedral, diamond crystal nestled amongst conglomerate river pebbles on a cobble from the famous Diamantina River of Minas Gerais. These alluvial diamonds, deposited into conglomerates over time, are the reason this region of Brazil was named after an old-time diamond rush! SELDOM are such specimens, especially colored diamonds, preserved, for obvious reasons! This one, amazingly, has very prominent pebbles and sandstone resting on a triangular-shaped cobble! In one view, you can see the lustrous diamond sparkling in a notch. For overall aesthetics, this one is among the best we have offered at auction, but is OVER THE TOP in the quality and rarity of the diamond. These came out of Brazil 40-50 years ago although some still trickle out today. This however is from an older collection. Valued $2000.
