Item Description

A rare, excellent, old-time combination specimen from this extinct North Carolina zircon pegmatite mine. A 9 mm, sharp and sharply terminated, brown zircon crystal is very aesthetically set on matrix. A pastel yellow-green, xanthitane crystal wedge is on the back of the matrix. Xanthitane is a very uncommon varietal name for titanite and is UNIQUE to this locality. It is a soft, friable, yellow earthy material as alteration pseudomorphs after titanite. It is identical with anatase. We have never seen a combination specimen of these two species. An ultimate combination rarity from this locale. Ex Howard Belsky Collection.
