Item Description
A beautiful thumbnail sized specimen of Tanzanite (the blue/purple variety of Zoisite first found in Tanzania in the 1960s) featuring a rare "fan"-shaped group of sharp, lustrous, well-formed, flattened crystals with a rich purple hue, partially coated by small white Prehnite crystals for a dramatic effect. Tanzanite gets is color from the presence of vanadium, and when backlit, the crystals on this piece show rich colors with good internal translucency. The piece shows fairly good pleochroism when rotated 90 degrees in the light. A wonderful combo specimen, with great visual appeal and quality.
