Item Description

A beautiful matrix display specimen hosting lustrous, orange-peach colored aggregates of crystallized Olmiite measuring up to 1.6 cm across on matrix from the type locality for the species. The piece was originally labeled as a Poldervaartite, which was a common mistake when these specimens were first discovered, as everything was thought to be Poldervaartite, but it turns out that they're Olmiite, and Poldervaartite is an exceptionally rare species. Great quality all around and show for the matrix. From the worldwide collection of famed Italian mineral collector, field collector and author, Francesco Bedogne of Sondrio, Italy (Collection #1879). Bedogne wrote dozens of articles and several books about the mineralogy of Italian Alpine localities such as Val Bregaglia, Val Masino, Val Codera, Val Spluga, Valtellina and the famous Val Malenco. He was also the founder of the Valtellinese Mineralogical Institute.
