Item Description

A classic specimen of Quartz from the famous Yaogangxian Mine. This piece features a predominant, sharp, well-formed, lustrous, GEM quality, colorless prismatic Quartz crystal which plays host to a lovely internal "phantom" in the center. The piece is highlighted by beautiful sharp gemmy purple Fluorite cubes up to 1.1 cm along with smaller Quartz crystals and metallic silvery colored Arsenopyrite at the base. The piece itself is notably aesthetic, and complete all the way around, save the base where it detached from the pocket wall. This is a very good piece of this now elusive material, as very little from this mine seems to be availabe on the market now. Valued in the inventory at $900. Ex Dr. Steven Smale Collection. Along with amassing one of the finest private mineral collections in the world, Steve is a renowned mathematician. His accomplishments include being awarded the Fields Medal in 1966 along with being the awarded the Wolf Prize in mathematics in 2007.
