Messina is home to a famous, instantly recognizable occurrence of unique and beautiful Quartz specimens in which the Quartz crystals are included with bright blue Ajoite, from finds in the mid 1980s. Specimens can vary, but this delightful, small-cabinet piece is rich in Ajoite inclusions (a very uncommon copper-containing silicate that is very rare from other localities and seldom this concentrated). The Ajoite puffballs and needles help delineate a phantom that stands out just below the surface, and the inclusions create a wonderful aesthetic that is hard to beat. BETTER IN PERSON! The silky luster adds an enchanting, almost frosted look that gives this piece an added dimension. There were several small finds of this style around the 1980's and, as you can imagine, quality Ajoite-in-Quartz specimens are seldom available, and highly sought-after.
