Item Description

An impressive, big crystal of Axinite-(Fe) from the "Alpine-type" deposit at Tormiq in the high mountains of Pakistan. This locality is well-known for its fine quality Epidote crystals, and Axinites (especially THIS size) are incredibly hard to find. This piece features very sharp, rather lustrous, deep clove purple-brown colored wedge-shaped crystals of translucent Axinite-(Fe) with associated stark white blocky Albite crystals, and no matrix. The entire Axinite group measures 7.2 cm, which is larger than most you'll find, not just from Tormiq, but most world localities. The piece is not completely pristine, as there are some contacted areas on the ends and the back, but the broad front-facing portion of the specimen is in fairly good shape. An impressive display-quality example of this now hard to find material, as very little has been found from Tormiq in recent years. Valued previously in our inventory at $2,500.
