Item Description

Sharp, fairly thick, lustrous, gemmy to translucent, soft silvery-blue colored crystals of Barite (not unlike those from Frizington, England) with minor attached matrix from the famous Clara Mine in the Black Forest. The piece is in decent shape, but the Barites are not perfect, despite their excellent form, thickness, luster and gemminess. As Barites go, this is a nice larger example of the material, as most of the really nice crystals of Barites from this locality are micros. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#11060). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017). A good German classic from the famous locality. Valued at $700.
