Item Description

The Barites from Muddy Creek are some of the most iconic Barites from Colorado. Their distinctive tabular habit with the chalky white exterior are unmistakable. This piece came labeled as coming from Summitville, which is in Rio Grande County, but it was a simple mistake as Summitville is the best known locality in the county. This piece is a textbook example of a Muddy Creek Barite featuring a complete, undamaged crystal with a translucent, silvery interior and a classic thin white "band" on the outer edge. A smaller sidecar crystal makes for a nice touch. A very attractive full sized miniature specimen of this classic material. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#12056). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
