Item Description

Bowenite is a variety of Antigorite, which is typically fibrous and opaque. Bowenite is essentially a hard, compact Antigorite, but you don't see gem material very often. Originally Bowenite was considered a valid species, and was named by James D. Dana in 1850 after George T. Bowen, who analyzed it in 1822. Typically the material is a dark to medium green hue, but here we have an incredibly rare and superb quality gemstone with fantastic internal gemminess and a rarely seen bright yellow hue. This "Round Brilliant" cut gem has a slight internal "haze", but the fact that it's as gemmy as it is makes it better than the VAST majority of Bowenite gems that we've had to offer. The unusual color combined with the fantastic gem quality make it a must have for any rare stone collector. We don't have a specific locality for the material outside of "Taiwan" but it's a truly special stone and something that is virtually impossible to find on the market. Retail value on this gem is $1,394.00.
