Item Description

This is a fine example of the rare and highly sought after Brochantites from the famous Shattuck Mine (Shattuck Shaft) in Bisbee. I've only seen a handful of these specimens over the years, and this one stands out as one of the best examples I've handled. Large (up to 2.0 cm), sharp, lustrous, deep metallic green prismatic crystals of Brochantite are intergrown on every side of the specimen, with very little matrix showing. Up close, the crystals are beautiful to view, and under strong lighting they show brilliant emerald green flashes against what are darker greenish-black prisms. An important specimen from this significant southern Arizona locality. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#12225). The label states that piece came from the collection of Giuseppe d'Agostino and the Hoadley Collection, but there are no other labels from the previous owners. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record).
