Item Description

A gorgeous, superb quality and highly aesthetic association from the famed Yaogangxian Mine in China. While Scheelite and Calcite are not rare from this mine, pieces like this are not easy to find on the market, compared to a decade ago. This piece hosts a predominant, "finger"-shaped group comprising many compressed white rhombic crystals of Calcite, measuring 4.4 cm long, dramatically flaring out of a dozens of very sharp, lustrous, well-formed, pseudo-octahedral crystals of golden-brown colored Scheelite measuring up to 8 mm, sitting on well-formed, prismatic, hexagonal crystals of gemmy to translucent colorless Quartz. A few small dings can be seen, but overall the piece is in very good shape, and I can't recall another piece like this with such an eye-catching Calcite group featured so prominently atop the Scheelites. A choice and showy small cabinet display specimen of this soon-to-be-classic material. The Scheelites so excellent blue fluorescence under SW UV light. Valued $3,000.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#840 C), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection through our various platforms.
