Item Description

An attractive scalenohedral group of sharp, lustrous, translucent, well-formed Calcite crystals with minor associated Ankerite rhombs and Chalcopyrite. The main Calcite is contacted on each termination, but some of the smaller Calcites are perfectly terminated and looks beautiful up close. The crytals are rather gemmy in areas, and honestly don't look like the typical Calcites I've seen from Freiberg in the past. The color of the crytals is a solf silvery-golden hue and nearly colorless in some of the smaller crysatls. Very attractive overall and a fine representation of this historic material. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#3261). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017). The piece is also accompanied by a label from Harvard University that states it's from the Pearse Collection. A great German classic from the famous locality.
