Item Description

Here's a great European Alpine "classic". One of the most recognized associations from the Alps are the beautiful red Grossular and green Clinochlore combinations from Italy. This piece features several superb, sharp, highly lustrous, rich red color composite dodecahedral crystal group Grossular (variety: "Hessonite") with fairly thick "rosettes" of silvery-green Clinochlore ("Chlorite"). The largest Hessonite group measures up to 1.1 cm across. This is a lovely miniature specimen for anyone interested in Italian Alpine mineral specimens or worldwide Garnets. RARE locality for the material as well, as I've never actually seen a confirmed piece of "Hessonite" from Comba Robert. Valued at $850. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#4156). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
