Item Description

A beautiful and classic example of the rare sodium copper sulfate mineral Kröhnkite from the type locality for the species, the monstrous Chuquicamata Mine in Chile, which is one of the largest mines (it's actually an open pit) in the world. This locality has undoubtedly produced the finest examples of Kröhnkite in the world. They date back over 100 years to 1908, and no other locality has ever produced anything bigger or better. This specimen features gorgeous rich blue colored crystalline areas of Kröhnkite sitting on typical matrix. You can see the Kröhnkite runs through to the back of the piece. A wonderful example of this classic, important material from this prestigious locale. From the worldwide mineral collection of Albert Lewis Kidwell (January 1, 1919 - August 16, 2008). Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. The phosphate species Kidwellite was named in his honor in 1974 ( https://www.mindat.org/photo-326405.html ).
