Item Description

Brilliant, deep blood red, sharp, well-formed, lustrous crystals of trigonal Proustite in semi-spherical groups which according to the label are sitting on Fluorite, but they look like compressed rhombs of Siderite to my eye. While this locality is well-known for its gorgeous "herringbone" style Silver specimens, the "Ruby Silver" sulfosalts like Pyrargyrite and Prousite are very hard to find. The Proustite crystals on this specimen are small, and the largest group of crystal measures 4 mm across, but they are quite beautiful up close, so we have photographed them with a Canon MP-E 65 mm macro lens to better illustrate their quality. If you collect Proustites or German minerals, you cannot afford to miss out on this attractive and seldom seen display specimen. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#11358). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017). A great German classic from this famous locality. Valued at $950.
