Smoky Quartz (huge stone) (cut by Brett Kosnar)

Item Description

A monstrous and superb quality Smoky Quartz gem from the vast granitic pegmatites in the Pikes Peak Batholith area of Colorado. While gem quality Smokies are not unheard of from this area, it's exceedingly rare to find a crystal that is large enough and CLEAN enough to yield a stone like this. To the best of my recollection, it's the largest Smoky Quartz we've ever had to offer from Colorado. The stone has a traditional "Cushion Brilliant" cut with virtually eye-clean clarity and a rich smoky cognac hue. It's a true museum stone, as it's larger than a golf ball in width, and is pushing 300 carats in weight! If you have a fine Smoky Quartz specimen from Colorado, this gem would make a superb pair for a "rough and cut" set, or it would stand alone as a stellar "doorknob" gem to add to your collection. For reference, the retail price on this stone is $8,355.00 ($30/carat).
